Eva Luka sa narodila 28. júla 1965 v Trnave. Na Filozofickej fakulte UK v Bratislave vyštudovala odbor prekladateľstvo-tlmočníctvo (angličtina, japončina). V rokoch 1993 – 1995 postgraduálne študovala japonský jazyk a literatúru na Hokkaidskej univerzite v Sappore a v rokoch 1998 – 2002 klasickú a súčasnú japonskú literatúru na ósackej univerzite.
Venuje sa tlmočeniu a prekladaniu z japončiny (Kóbó Abe, Mači Tawara, Banana Jošimoto, Džiró Nitta). Autorka od roku 2005 píše knihy pod menom Eva Luka (Diabloň 2005, Havranjel 2011, Pani Kurčaťová 2018, Jazver 2019).
V roku 1999 sa stala laureátkou prestížnej literárnej súťaže RUBATO.
So zbierkou The Minotaur’s Daughter sa dostala do výberu The New York Times – Best Poetry of 2025 (výber najlepšej poézie za rok 2025). Americká poetka a kritička Elisa Gabbert pre The New York Times napísala:
„Sometimes after only one or two lines you know a poet speaks to you — as if the sensibility comes through in the smallest units. This was my experience with Luka and The Minotaur’s Daughter, translated from the Slovak by James Sutherland-Smith. I love these witchy poems about liminal spaces and hybrid creatures, man-beasts and fish-birds and dead-alive beings: ‘Dressed-undressed,/in her mouth crying and singing,/she returns down the slope/to home-not-home,’ Luka writes in ‘Wildsister.’ ‘Neither on foot nor in a wagon,/on her shoulder an owl, in her hand/an apple, in her apple/love, in her love/poison.’“
