Anna Grusková, who has been in residency at the cultural centre Skriðuklaustur in East Iceland for the past four weeks, screened her latest documentary at the centre on Sunday the 5th March. The film „Woman of the New Era „tells the story of Dr. Alžbeta Gwerková Göllnerová (1905-1944), the Slovak pioneer of democracy for women, ). Dr. Göllnerová witnessed the annihilation of democratic values and of the concept of the common Czechoslovak state, along with the rise of the clero-fascist regime in Slovakia. Her book entitled Woman of the New Age was banned. Anna Grusková elaborated on the theme in the book A Quiet Stay at Gwerková-Göllnerová Street (published in 2022), which has gained considerable readership in Slovakia.
Anna Grusková introduced the film, and after the screening, she had a fruitful discussion with the audience about the film and the life of Dr. Göllnerová.
